Camp Makearoo Travel, Lodging, and Dining Details

I’m happy to help coordinate travel, roommates, and ride shares; email me any time with questions or requests for assistance.

Getting to The Abbey Resort

We begin bright and early on Friday, May 10th, so you’ll want to fly or drive in the night before and get a good night’s rest.

In my experience as a travel writer, flights into Milwaukee (General Mitchell International Airport) tend to be cheaper than those into Chicago / O’Hare. The resort is about an hour away from both airports.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT book Camp Makearoo flights through Chicago Midway–it’s almost three hours away!

Flights into Milwaukee tend to be cheaper from everywhere but the Great Lakes region. Midwesterners may find cheaper flights into Chicago O’Hare.

Kayak is my fave travel deal site; check Southwest separately for flights, too.

The Abbey Resort offers shuttle service from both O’Hare and Milwaukee airports from $125-150 (call for current rates), but guests can ride together and split the cost.

You can also research car rental deals and split a car with a friend or fellow attendee.

Rooms at The Abbey

To book your room at the Abbey Resort, call 800-709-1323, press #2 and ask for the Makearoo room rate.

The room rate for a standard double is $112 (plus 10.5% tax–$11.76–and a $12/day resort fee = $135.76/night).

Guests can share rooms to save some dough, and I’ll create a Camp Makearoo Facebook group to coordinate room and ride sharing as we get closer to the retreat.

There are room upgrade options for those who want to share a bigger room as a group or to go swanky for themselves with more space or a harbor view.

The $12/night resort fee includes use of the fitness center, pool, and fitness classes.

The Abbey Resort recently upgraded all of their rooms and the AVANI Spa is on site if you’d like to schedule some pampering.

Dining Options

There’s a variety of dining options both on resort grounds and in nearby Lake Geneva (a free shuttle ride away); I’ll have a list of best picks up soon.

Every guest room has a microwave and mini fridge – plenty of ways to save on a meal or two this way.

There will be a wine and cheese reception after Day 1 of Camp Makearoo!
